Meet the Innkeepers

Innkeepers, June and Marc, in front of Die Heimat Country Inn

Marc and June purchased Die Heimat Country Inn B&B in July 2014 and are enjoying their new venture. They are happy to be back home in Iowa after living in many other places. They grew up in the Kalona/Wellman area just south of Iowa City. They have lived in Iowa, New York, Nicaragua and in Tanzania, East Africa where they were the country directors for Mennonite Central Committee, a relief and developoment organization. They lived most recently in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

June remembers visiting the Amana Colonies as a child, but is now enjoying learning about the history and faith of the Amana people. She has a BA in human development/family studies and an MA in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). She taught ESL in the Culture and Intensive English Program at the University of Northern Iowa.

She was also the Executive Director of early childhood programs in PA and started an organization called Early Childhood Innovative Connections, a co-op model that encouraged programs to share administrative services. June enjoys walking, reading, cooking and baking; especially cinnamon rolls using her mom’s family recipe.

Marc has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Iowa. He has worked for Eastman Kodak in Rochester, New York and for TDS Automation in Waverly, Iowa. In Pennsylvania he was the Facilities Maintenance Manager for the headquarters and guest center for Mennonite Central Committee. Marc is a creative problem solver and enjoys woodworking, landscaping, and renovating old buildings. He enjoys creating a comfortable, relaxing and beautiful environment for their guests.

Marc and June have enjoyed welcoming guests from many places around the world to Die Heimat Country Inn, which in German means “the home place”. Marc and June hope that each of their guests will feel a sense of home and belonging at Die Heimat Country Inn B&B during their visit.

Marc and June have three grown children: Emily and her husband, Isaac, live in Madison, WI with their two children, Vanessa lives in NYC and Jonathan in Iowa City.
