Your hostess Joy loves to bake and cook, she grew up on a farm in the Kalona Mennonite community so she’s accustomed to hearty German food in bountiful servings! In addition, because of the many years Joy spent living in Johannesburg, South Africa you may find a hint of the British influence in such items as Lemon Curd, Crumpets, and Scones.

Your breakfast is served buffet style and will consist of coffee or tea, fruit juice, a fruit dish, home made Crunchy Granola, and a main course such as a breakfast casserole, specialty pancakes, egg dishes, breakfast sausage, and something home baked … whatever the cook is inspired to prepare!

Breakfast is a wonderful way to start your day; you may meet travelers from all over the world. Visitors came from thirteen countries this past year! Join your innkeeper for the personal touch of a history/tour talk at breakfast. You will learn about the seven villages and how best to spend the time you have. She will share information about day trips to Herbert Hoover’s West Branch, to Mt. Vernon for antiquing, the Kalona Amish community, and local wineries. Also the highlights of Cedar Rapids and Iowa City.
